Just What I Was (Always and Forever) Looking For
Ever since I was a little girl, I always had to wear sturdy shoes, because I was born without a left foot. My prosthetic brace required shoes that had a thick side wall or else it would tip outward really badly without that added support. Nobody, not even the prosthetic craftsmen themselves, could figure out exactly why my shoe tilted or how to build a foot brace that could prevent this from happening. They once made me a leg brace that went all the way up to my kneecap, but this was just straight-up insane, especially since I only really need a brace to help my stumpy foot stay in my shoe. I balance just fine going barefoot, so there was no need for a brace that a partial leg amputee might wear, but nobody listened to me as a 10-year-old. Therefore, that sucker rarely got worn. I just went right back to my old prosthetic foot, which only went about 5 inches above the ankle, until people started to get the hint that I refused to wear something that gave me sores on my knee.I'll take a gimpy foot tilt any day over knee pain.As you can probably figure out by this point, shoe tilting was a common occurrence for me since my body weight seemed to weaken new shoes faster than my parents cared to replace them.A classmate once asked me why my foot tilted to the outer side when I walked. Since I was an insecure 13 year old, and it felt sooo embarrassing for one of my peers to openly point this obvious tilt out, I lied and said I was in a motorcycle accident. You know, I became gimpy like this due to how cool I was to be riding a motorcycle at the age of 13 (wink wink). Kids at that age are too dumb to stop and ponder just how uncool it was for me to be permanently injured while doing something cool, though. I have no idea if she believed my story or not but to this very day I have never actually been on a motorcycle (unless you count my older brother's broke-down dirt bike that sat parked in the driveway for a good few years; I was feeling wild & crazy one day and decided to sit on it for all of ten seconds when nobody was around).Hiking boots offer me the most stability, so that is what I tend to wear most days of the week, but variety of styles can be quite a downer. Especially for someone like me who loves to dress in cute outfits. I have never longed to be born 'normal', as I am a strong advocate for all the deformed freaks of this world to simply love who they are regardless of the shame that much of society tries to instill within us, but I have caught myself feeling awful envious of all the shoe types that you normal-foot ladies can wear. No, I don't have a foot fetish, don't even go there. If you are looking for earth tones, 99% of the hiking shoes on Amazon have got you well-covered in that department. I guess it comes in handy if you are being chased by a bear on a hiking trail and need to blend in with the trees in a lame attempt to throw the bear off visually, but if you are looking for something that goes well with everyday life, such as black hiking boots, these are much harder to come by.Especially at an affordable price. So imagine my joy when I came across these all-black BearPaw hiking boots.Stylish AND affordable! As of right now, I have only bought one pair, but I already feel the need to snatch up at least one more pair before they tragically disappear into the deep dark depths of "things I once loved but can never find anymore".These black hiking boots are indeed sturdy, they fit my tiny deformed feet quite well, which also means I cannot really tell you how they would fit on your feet. Unless, of course, you were also born with tiny deformed feet. In which case, lets build us up a consumer army and demand that companies make more stylish hiking boots for folks like us!And for folks not at all like us!And in more colors than just browns and grays.I also like how the company name is on the bottom of the shoes along with a few paw prints (that'll surely confuse any bear that tries to chase you down while wearing these shoes). Unless I get a small pebble lodged under there, or my cat flips a shoe over when I'm not wearing them, I'll rarely ever look under these shoes to see this lovely bonus feature. Still though, I like how they put that little extra touch into their product. If you live in a snowy or sandy area, please let me know if you can actually see the name and paw prints pressed into these textures. I think that would be cool! I would try this out where I live, but we rarely get snow here, and I don't think the local Home Depot would appreciate me busting open a bag of sand on aisle 16, bay 022 for this experiment.Nothing could ever be as cool as riding a motorcycle when you are 13 years old, though. But these black hiking boots come darn close to it.
